Hi Joe;
This is unverified, but I think that Isaac "Vrooman" Fondy's parents were Douw Isaac Fonda (b.1767) and Gertrude Hager Vrooman (b.1769), dau. of Jonas Adam Vrooman and Delia Hager.They were married at the First Presbyterian Church At Ballston Center, Saratoga, New York in November 1788. The name was apparently changed to Fondy by Isaac, which is not unique, but occurred in only 3 or 4 families from the Fonda clan of New York State. (see my website www.fonda.org)
Vrooman was born 1804 in Albany, New York; he joined the Schoharie, New York Militia in 1839; moved to Philadelphia, St. Louis, then Illinois; died 1852 at 29 years of age in Goreville, Johnson, Illinois.
He married Mary Jane Stubblefield on 14-Jan-1840 in Bond Co., Illinois. She was b. Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1818; her family moved to Bond Co., IL about 1829. Mary Jane is the 6th child of 10 born to Jeremiah Stubblefield (b: abt 1788 in Jackson Co., GA, married to Sarah Nicks).
Mary Jane died about 1842, after having one child, George William Fondy, b. Sep-1840 in Jonesboro, Union, Illinois; he served in Co. I. 128 Illinois Infantry, Corporal, Union and was a Civil War Casualty; he was named after his Uncle, George W. Stubblefield.He married Phebe Ann Humphreys on 11-Jan-1863 in Jonesboro, Union Co., Illinois, and George died on 30-Jan-1865.I don't know the names of any children, but if this is your gggrandfather, then obviously they had at least one boy!
Vrooman remarried after Mary Jane died, to Mary Ann (Polly) Davis, in 1844 and had two girls before he died, which is where I leave off.
If Douw Isaac Fonda is, in fact, the father of Isaac Vrooman Fondy, then you can trace your lineage all the way back to Holland in the 1500's (see the wensite).
I know there are quite a few Fondy's in Texas and New Mexico and I think they are your family line.If you see this, maybe you can fill in some details for me/us.
Best Regards,
Mark Fonda
