Some more information. . .
William had a first wife named Jane. She was collecting his pension as late as 1880.

William was mustered out of the army 1860 to IL.

William married Mary Ann WILLIAMS 1845 or 46 at Fort Smith, AR. Apparently he either never divorced his first wife, Jane, or the divorce reocrds got lost. Mary Ann filed for his pension in 1880 and was denied based on Jane had been drawing it for some years.
