Thanks for the reply. My husband's grandmother on his father's side was Millicent Mary Vowles, b. 19.8.1874 Thornbury. She was the youngest of four children. Her parents were William Vowles, b. 14.8.1842 Pill St George Easton-in-Gordano, occupation Baker, and Mary Ann (Hookway).

William's parents were Samuel Vowles, b.17.9.1805 Backwell, occupation Farmer, and Mary (Griffin). I have found eight children.

Samuel's parents were William Vowles, b.abt 1779, occupation unknown, and Sophia. I have found four children, two born at Backwell and two christened at Wraxall.

Have been unable to go back any further but see from your message that Sophia's maiden name was Emery. When looking at Bishops Transcripts for Backwell her maiden name was not entered for the birth of Samuel or John (b.1808), so this is new information for me.

Can you help with further details?
