I believe Ican identify Alvin.

He was a Union officer in Ohio. commissioned 2nd Lt. 29th Ohio 2 Oct. 1861 promoted to Lt Col 67th Ohio 11 oct 1861 and Col 1 Sept. 1865, he was breveted BG USV 8 dec 1864 and Major Gen. USV 15 Nov. 1865

He was born 1827 in OH and died 1904 OH. The VanVoorhees Assoc. has a listing of his children and grandchildren if you are interested let me know.
