Hey, we're 4th cousins twice removed! I'm descended from Peter Bargen and Maria Martens (actually I'm descended from Maria on 2 branches of my family tree). Last night I read a copy of the diary of Peter Bargen. Unfortunately it's not his whole life story, but before he died in the 1970s, he only got as far as his family's escape from Russia into Latvia.

I'm typing this from my phone while I'm at work, so it will be a few hours before I can check my family tree to see if it goes back to Elias. The diary is type-written, but Peter added umlauts over the A to show that the name was once spelled Van Bärgen.
