Von Bargen name as variation?

Do any of you Von Bergen researchers know of the name changing to Von Bargen, through time? Or what area does the Von Bergen name seem to originate in? I have found records of Von Bargen in the North of Germany, esp. Hamburg in the 1500s, otherwise Niedersachsen, through the present. But most modern Germans regard the name as an awkward, un-German sounding name, so I wonder if it changed, as many names do, through time.
