I have no additional information on your Volzer line. Mine came to Ohio. The only connections I can think of is that Christian Volzer lived with his Uncle George Roos in Perry Co. Pennsylvania. Gustave Volzer married a Mary Ellen Crowley, daughter of Michael and Winifred Crowley, all from Pittsburg. I imagine that the family either visited Crowley relatives from time to time or, possibly, Gustave had visited Volzer relatives in Pennsylvania and had met Mary Ellen.
As for Christian and his journies, I have still not found George Roos or Christian on the 1860 or 1870 census.
Here is the relative passage which you probably already have:
Proceeding direct to Pennsylvania, he spent the following year on his uncle's farm, repaying by his labor the money his relative had so kindly advanced him. In the spring of 1858 Mr. Volzer made his first visit to Canton, Ohio, and during the ensuing two years he was employed by Mr. John Roth, a prosperous farmer of Stark county. From here he went to Paris, Ohio, near which place he worked for a farmer by the name of John Emerick until June, 1861, when he returned to the home of his uncle in Pennsylvania.
Any idea on how to advertise this Forum? I sent it to all the Volzer families who I have had e-mails with except for about two whose e-mail addresses I have forgotten
