Dear Heather,
I do not know much about the Vollgraff family. From my profession I do know however that at the turn of this century Professor Wilhelm Vollgraff was one of the first Dutch (?) scientists to perform excavations in Greece (1906 in Halos for instance). Vollgraff became later professor in Archaeology at Utrecht University and Groningen University. During the twenties he started excavations in Argos, Greece under the aegis of the French institute in Athens. Vollgraff's father J.C. Vollgraff was a professor in Greek literature at Brussels University from 1900-1925. If you are interested I could get you some more information about these two Vollgraff's, together with some references. I also have a Dutch article with a picture of Wilhelm Vollgraff.
Cheers, Margriet Haagsma, Athens.
