Looks like you got your grandfathers info from the SSDI? (the data matches). (ssdi.rootsweb.com).
I did a quick search there to see what I could find.
If you haven't been there, here's the info.
The only Illinois Ernest matches the dates you have.
Last SS benefit address listed as Villa Park in DuPage co.
At least it gives you the location, which might help.
