I suspect your line to be the same one from which I descended.
I THINK my grandfather was the oldest son of Joachim Frederick Christian Theodor Volkmann. My grandfather was born in Mecklenburg, Germany and moved to Davenport, Scott Co., IA. His name was Fredrich Volkman born Aug. 9, 1848. He was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He immigrated to Iowa at age 17. His obituary does not mention any siblings. On the death certificate of my grandmother, Margaretha Christiansen Jessen Volkman, he signs his name Fredrich J. C. Volkman. I am GUESSING the J is Joachim and the C is Christian. He was called Fritz. He an Margaretha had 2 children, my father Henry Nicholas Volkman, and a daughter Frieda. They adopted a son. My father left Iowa, married my mom in Montana and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. Half of my siblings were born in Montana, and the other half that included me were born in Grants Pass in the home where my younger sister still lives.

I have more if you think we are related.
