We are a family based Placer Mining Company. We are interested in any information on a Ben Volkman that staked some claims during the Klondike Gold Rush. This is the information I have been able to find: His name is entered with the NWMP records at Chilkoot. He entered June 11,1899 listing San Francisco as his checkpoint. He had a Placermining application from 1899 to 1908, I do not know whether he mined that particulair claim till 1908. I believe he "also" staked a claim on Sulphur Creek (below Discovery) in Nov.of 1903, (which is where we are mining today). If anyone has any information on Ben Volkman, please e-mail to:
sky1@yukon.net
We are interested to know whether he returned to the States, if he is from the Volkman family that arrived on the Mayflower (??), (possible??), from Germany. I do have a database list of Volkman's that were in the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Sharlene Klein
