Pete Vogel was born on May 6, 1931 in Sanborn, IA to Peter and Minnie Kros Vogel. He grew up on a farm near Sanborn, IA and attended country school. At the age of 16 Pete moved with his family to a farm near Iona, MN. Prior to his marriage Pete did carpentry work, and later worked for Central Telephone Company. On June 29, 1956 he and Helen Hindt were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Iona, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Slayton for a short time. They then moved to a farm near Currie, MN until they purchased a farm west of Iona. Pete continued working for the telephone company and farming. He retired from Central Telephone Company after 12 years of service but continued his farming. In 1990 they semi-retired and moved to Slayton where they built a home. Pete continued raising cattle and helping his son, Larry, on the farm. Pete was a patient at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD for 10 days following a farm accident. He passed away there on November 4, 1999 at the age of 68. He was a charter member of the First Reformed Church in Slayton where he had served several terms as deacon. He and Helen were sponsors for the youth group. Pete enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Slayton; three children and their spouses; Larry and Marcella Vogel of Iona, Gay Vogel of St. Paul, MN, and Tammie Vogel of St. Anthony, MN; two grandchildren; Ian Vogel and Christine Vogel; two brothers, two sisters and their spouses: John and Emma Vogel of Slayton, Mina Klienwolterink of Sheldon, IA, Bill and Evelyn Vogel of Currie, MN, and Minnie and Roger Schwartz of Garvin, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Lois, two sisters, Pearl VanderNaald and Margaret Hielkema.

Funeral services were held at First Reformed Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, November 8, 1999 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Frank Boerema officiating. The organist was Sharon Lais. The soloist was Sharon Hindt. The pallbearers were Denny Spartz, Billy Taylor, Peter Vogel, Leonard Tellinghuisen, Doug Schaap, and Don Anderson. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.
