My family immigrated from Mensfelden in 1834. Phillip Wm Zabel (b 1788, Germany; d 31 Aug 1865 Louisville KY) and his wife Anna Marie Pfeifer Zabel had 5 children: Phillip Anton, Christina, William, John, and Maria. They arrived in Louisville - and bought land in Harrison County, IN.
William, John, and Maria originally located in the Lanesville, IN area (but later returned to Louisville, KY). Christina married in Louisville and later moved to Lanesville. Philip Anton Zabel (b 6 Oct 1813 Mensfelden; d 10 Aug 1894 Lanesville, IN) worked in Louisville; he later moved to Lanesville where he married Katherine Philippine Voelker (b 5 Nov 1814 Germany; d 4 Dec 1894 Lanesville, IN) in 1836.
Phillip William Zabel and sons Philip Anton, William, and John were among the founding members of the original Lutheran Church in Lanesville.
Philip and Philippina Zabel had a son on 4 Oct 1839 in Lanesville; John. He married Magdalina Wortz (b 29 Jun 1836; d 9 Feb 1922 Lanesville). They had a son, William Zabel (20 Aug 1866, Lanesville; d 3 Jun 1932, Evansville, IN).
Rev. William Zabel (Lutheran Pastor) married Anna Carolina Redick (b 14 Apr 1871, Louisville KY; d 10 Jun 1932, Evansville, IN) on 10 Aug 1890.
Rev William and Anna Zabel had a son, William J F Zabel on 1 Sept 1900 in Gibbon, MN (d 19 Aug 1950, Charlotte, IA). Rev. William J F Zabel married Hilda Stellhorn (b 16 Mar 1902, Campbell Hill, IL; d 25 Nov 1992, Tampa, FL) on 12 Oct 1925.
Rev. William and Hilda Zabel were my grandparents. My father, James Duane Zabel, has researched our family history; I have visited the Zabel home in Mensfelden.
