Well, yes, they COULD each be the mother of ALL of the children --- in a parallel universe! ;-)
(Or if there were two Matthew Davises.)
I had been seriously thinking of the possibility that Lucy was either Lucy Baber Vivion or Lucy Vivion Baber myself, but of course your other idea of Lucy Baber dying early is also possible (extremely possible, in that time period).Someone had given me the 1803 date as the year that Matthew Davis & Lucy VIVION were married --- not sure of the source, but if you've verified that 1803 was the date of the BABER marriage, I'll change that in my records.
As I look through my notes just now, I see that I DO have that Matthew married Lucy Baber on 15 Feb 1803 in Clark Co.To the side of that, I have written that Lucy Baber was born in 1788 in Clark Co. --- not sure of the source.Same note says Matthew was born c. 1782.
I don't know how isolated Clark Co. was in those days, but I know it wasn't uncommon for a couple to set up housekeeping & then actually get married when a circuit rider came along whenever.I suppose that a lot of those marriages didn't ever get recorded properly. And of course so many have been lost over the years due to fires, etc.Any of those scenarios could have applied to Lucy Vivion.
So, Lucy V. died fairly young, too --- only about 45 or so --- and about 10 of those 45 years were spent being pregnant! Aye yi yi!
The list of kids I have for Matthew & Lucy:
(no Obediah)
Rachel - b. 9 July 1805, KY
John M. - b. 20 Oct 1807, KY
Silas C. - b. 17 Dec 1809, KY
William W. - b. 6 Feb 1812
Matthew L. - b. 25 Mar 1814
Milton Vivion - b. 27 Nov 1815, Bourbon Co., KY
Martin C. - b. KY
Mary "Polly" Jane - b. 25 Feb 1818, KY
Mahala Baber - b. 10 July 1820, KY
Lucy Ann - b. 23 Nov 1822, KY
Nancy E. - b. 15 May 1825, KY
Isham T. - b. 11 Feb 1827, KY
Joicy M. - b. 23 Nov 1829, Callaway Co., MO
So - a couple of differences.I *think* that the cousin who gave me this got it from a census record, but I am not sure. It is puzzling that one of the later children would have been given the middle name of Baber were that not the name of the mother. On the other hand, another of the children is given the middle name of Vivion!
You mentioned previously that there WERE two Lucy Vivions in Clark Co. at that time --- did you have any other details on the other Lucy?Do you think that she would have been the one in Bettye's tree?
Thank you for the birth & death years of Lucy V - I don't think that I had that.I will try to follow up on that.If you have already tried certain archives & found nothing, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know so that we don't duplicate efforts.
Good hunting!
Judith
