Dear Linda,

I read your posting the the Vivian Family Geneology Forum and thought I could add some information. Payson Vivian is my Great Great Uncle. He inherited the Oakland Grist Mill from my Great Great Grandfather Charles Vivian, who inherited it from his father John Vivian. John came from England in approximately the 1850ís and was a traveling preacher. He met and married the daughter of the mill owner whose last name was Malcom. When Malcom passed on he willed the mill to John Vivian. Charles willed the Mill to Payson, and Payson to Loyld who closed the mill in the late fifties.

Iím not aware of Stephen Vivian that Edward Eddy describes who ran a sawmill. I presume he was a cousin and ran a separate mill.

Hope this helps.
