Hello Corinne,
Since posting your message about your Great Grandfather, John James Vivian, I wonder if you have discovered any further Vivian descendants in New Zealand?
It is very interesting that your Great Grandmother's maiden name was Emily Louise Herbert, because I am looking for any connection to a Herbert Vivian, whose son was called Herbert Arthur Vivian, and his son is Erin Vivian born in 1928 living in Auckland, and he has a son also called Erin born in 1949.
Erin told me that he had a Great Aunt Emily Smythe, born in Otago sometime around 1840ish, apparently the first European female born in the area where they lived.
Do you have any Otago Smythes in your family tree?
Regards, Logan Shortt.
