John Lambrick Vivian (1830-1896)edited several books dealing with English Heraldry including information on the Vivian family of Cornwall.

His best resources for ancient references to the Vivian's can be found in the following:

The Visitations of Cornwall, Comprising the Herald's Visitations of 1530, 1573 & 1620. W. Pollard & Co., Exeter: 1887 672 p. Library of Congress Call No. Microfilm 70245CS

Pedigree of the Vivian Family of Cornwall. W. Pollard & Co., Exeter: 1887. 22p. Library of Congress Call No. CS439.V6

The Visitation of the County of Cornwall in the Year 1620. Publications of The Harleian Society, Vol. 9, London: 1874. 344p. Call No. CS410.H3 v. 9

The Vivian family has noble roots going back to the times of William the Conquerer and is well documented from the 13th century.
