not Sunderland specifically, but i have Viponds from Loaning Head, Cumberland County who for three generations married wives from Stanhope and Middleton in Teesdale, both in Durham county. I always wondered if there was a Vipond family connection somewhere, that they would seek wives from Durham.

beginning in the early 1700's i have Margaret Hullock who was married to either Nicholas or John (Nicholas is not mentioned in the will but John is). The second generation, their son Nicholas, was married to Martha Allason (Middleton in Teesdale). Her father was Cuthbert Allason.
I found the given names "Cuthbert" and "Millican" had carried over a century later,in the Sharp family of Sunderland who lived next door to the parents of Redvers Vipond. Two Vipond's also married into the Millican family.

then there's the third generation of Joseph Vipond who married Mary Wearmouth. She was born in Stanhope, Durham, the daughter of William Wearmouth (Stanhope) and Hannah Richardson.

and that was the last of the merry wives from Durham.
