VINYARD/VINEYARD - MS,MO,AR,GA,OK,CA
The story:
Cherokee parents of 3 children died/were killed(have heard both)on the Cherokee Trail of Tears. The one female childd was raised by the family of a Dr. Vineyard, the two boys were raised by another family.I am looking for the young girl - she is an ancestor of my Grandmother Doshia Ann (Clayton) Woods, m. Andrew Jackson Woods.
The Info:
Helena,AR has an 'old Vineyard neighborhood'.
In 1970 Mrs. J.C. Sutton - Dr Vineyard's ggdaughter lived in Okla City.
Elizabeth, the youngest of the Vineyard family was raised in ElDorado.
A Mr. Win Cook is mentioned.
A Mrs. Kirkman, helped with some research, said she thought that the indian girl moved from GA to AR with the Vineyard Family.
Winnie & Jennie Vineyard are mentioned to be living in Calif.
Winnie, the younger daughter of Erastus Vineyard, Dr. Vineyard's 3rd son, said she remembers her father telling her about Dr. Vineyard's 'little indian girl'.She also said there were pictures and letters about her in her mother's trunk - the house burned and all was lost.
Cousin Mae, Mrs. John Issac M___ was suppossed to have taken some of the pictures - her house also burned
In 1970 letter suggested going to Laurel MS as Uncle William Vineyard lives there and did quite a bit of family research a good many years back.
Jesse Vineyard lives in Memphis - house burned and has no family records.
Aunt Janie's and Cousin Fred's, both Vineyards - homes burned - much destroyed.
This is what I have that seems to make sense re bits of information. If anyone can be of help it would be greatly appreciated.
