I've just been reading through this information. Here on genealogy.com there is a collection of books titled: Southern Genealogies, #1, 1600s to 1800s, Historical Southern Families, and there is a Vol. XVIII, “Later Descendents of the Dees Family.” On page 57, the author writes that Mrs. Nellie Burns Sparks of Idaho had sent in the information that: Levi Dees was born about 1790 in Tennessee, died 1864, married Mary Vineyard (1796-1823, died in IL), the daughter of Daniel Vineyard, a German immigrant.
There was a Daniel Vineyard in Pope County IL in 1820, and the old land maps show his property as adjoining that of David Dees.
There is an 1816 tax record from Pope County IL showing that David, Jessey, Levey, and William Dees all owned horses in Pope County in 1816. I think it's logical to guess that Mary Vineyard was the daughter of Daniel Veneyard, and that the Vineyards and the Dees were in Pope County in 1816.
