Amy et al,
A DNA project has been established that includes the surnames Vineyard and Vinyard. The Weingart, Weingarten, and Weingartner DNA project through Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) was created in July 2005. The project is also open to those having variant spellings and anglicized versions of these surnames (e.g. Vineyard is an anglicized version of Weingarten). The project can be seen at the following webpages: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/weingart/ or http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/weingart/index.html.
Another way to access this project would be to go to the http://www.familytreedna.com/ webpage. In the upper left hand corner of this webpage there is box entitled Search a DNA Project (The appearance of the box is better with Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser than with Firefox). In the empty box type in either Vineyard or Vinyard and click the Search button. Weingart will be one of the resulting projects that appears.
Currently, there is a participant in the project whose most distant ancestor was John Vinyard, born circa 1745, and another participant whose most distant ancestor was Joshua Vineyard, born 1812.
Hopefully you find this helpful.
Are you related to individual who can participate in the project?
Any Vineyard or Vinyard is welcomed to participate.
