Vines SC to Cobb co. GA 1870 to Gregg co. TX 1880
The 1870 Cobb Co. GA census district of Acworth page 225 dated Aug. of 1870 has Mary F. DAVENPORT age 27 a white female who keeps house with $300 value of personal estate, William DAVENPORT age 9 a white male in school, and Ann E WHIPPLE age 60 a white female who teaches school. All give their place of birth as GA.Evans VINE age 43 a white male who "works on farm" with $300 value of personal estate, born in SC with Willie VINE age 8 a white male born in AL, Charlie H. VINE a white male age 5 born in AL, and Georgia A. VINE a white female age 2 born in GA. This census does not give relationships to the head of household.And on page 228 is James W. VINE age 36 a white male whose occupation is painter with $500 of real estate and $300 of personal estate with Rachael A. VINE age 30 a white female who is keeping house. Both were born in GA. Several other Davenport families living nearby. I find no other Vine(s) in Cobb county and no Evans that would connect.
The 1880 Gregg Co. TX census Vo. 14, ED35, Sheet 2, line 48 page 409 dated June 1880 has J.W. VINES [IMES in ancestry.com], married with occupation painter born in GA as were both parents, R.A. VINES married and keeping house born in GA as were both parents, L.?. VINES single and occupation as painter born in South Carolina with father born in GA and mother in SC. The race, sex, age and relationship to head of household is missing for these three entries. This page was torn in the original census book. These three are listed at the bottom of the page. The top of the next page continues this family [Vines in ancestry.com] with son Charly H. VINES age 15, daughter Georgie VINE age 11 [she has a line drawn through her entry on the page], son Willie VINES age 19 occupation is painter, daughter Hattie VINES age 9 and daughter Jenny VINES age 5. All children's state of birth is GA except the youngest child Jenny who was born in TX and have both parents state of birth as GA. [This family moved to TX after 1872 and before 1875.] On page 415 is an N.E. [or A.E.] VINES age 49 female, married, a seamstress born in GA as were both her parents. She is enumerated alone.
