Hi
I saw your offer and hope you can perhaps help me.
I have read "51 Years of a Victorian Life" - I found a copy on the web and when it arrived found it had the authors signature AND a letter from her at her London home fixed inside.
I have also read the later book "Margaret Countess of Jersey" written by her granddaughter.
In the latter the author states that at 'Villiers's specific request Countess Margaret had undertaken 'a Record of the Family Villiers, Earls of Jersey' which had been published privately.
Can you help me at all to find out where copies might now be found, for reference purposes.
Can you say if there is any reason why, before he became the 8th Earl of Jersey, Villiers - as he is usually referred to - seems to have dropped out of his mothers mention? She took him out of Eton to join them in India, He was taken to Australia before he went up to Oxford but he never graduatedand the second book refes to parental disapproval of his lifestyle. What does this refer to? Did he have a relationship that was disapproved of? Where was he living? He is missing from the 1901 Census.
I do hope you canb throw some light on this for me and thanks for your time.
Colin
