My Dad's Service Records and ss number???

Hello i am the daughter of Richard Charles Stephens{ Dick, Dickie} Born July 17th 1944, passed Oct 3 2005, I know he was a SP4 US Army Vet, Vietnam military Police, and a member to the Brewster Ma. VFW Post 9917, I am trying to find out about his servie record DD form 214 however i cannot locate his social security number, {his Obit}http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=27920534, i am trying to find out more about his military dayz as i am becoming a member of my local VFW chapter and they said they needed his DD form,,, does anyone know how i can get this info or even find his ss, the SSDI database isnt showing him or maybe its cuz i cant pay for it. any at all info or even anyone whom might have known him with any kind of pic or awards ect he may have had or gotten i great appreciate it, Thank you and Blessed be....
