2/39th was a Unit that was part of the Army's 9th Inf Division operating in the Mekong Delta just south of Saigon. They were also part of the Mobile Riverine Force, a combined Army/Navy effort to patrol all of the rivers leading out to the South China Sea.

Send me the name of the casualty from the IDPF, and I'll see if I have the records as to what happened that day - and get you some contacts of men who were with this Unit.
