There is a will in Mason Co., Kentucky, dated 14 Dec 1804, of Garrard Davis of Mason Co., KY, naming his wife, Nancy, son Charles to get one feather bed and furniture, one rifle gun and one black colt, son Nathan, son Reason, dau. Cars Hain, son John, son-in-law Joseph Spinner. Charles Davis married Clarissa Veirs 1-12-1808. Their eldest son William was born in Kentucky and they shortly thereafter moved to Fayette Co., IN, where some of his brothers located too. After Charles died, Clarissa married a Cole and in 1834 there was a partition filed in Shelby Co., IN to divide her estate between her heirs: William C. Davis, Parmelia Davis, Polly Ann Hewitt, Nancy Jane Davis and Clarissa Cole.

In answere to your other question, Shelby Co., IN Probate Book D page 369, Mar 1847, final settlement of estate of William W. Drake decd. Heirs mentioned: Sarah aged 8, Nathan aged 6, Eliza aged 5, Ludena Ann aged 4. The administrator of William W. Davis' est. was Eden H. Davis.

I went to Brandywine Cemetery about 7 years ago and found the stone of Nathan D. Drake, son of William C. Drake and Permelia Bassett.

I think the parents of William W. Drake were: William Drake and Phebe Rogers. William Drake made land entries on several acres of land in and around section 20 twp 14 range 7. He sold one of these tracts to his son, Elias in 1830, then in 1836 Elias turned around and sold 40 acres of this same land to William W. Drake. William and Parmelia lived on this tract until 1839 when they conveyed it to F. Smith. In the 1840s both Williams died. But when William purchased the 40 acres from Elias, he lived within a mile of Elias and the elder William Drake. Another small scrap of evidence is William's marriage record to Parmelia Davis in 1835 where his name is given as William Drake, Jr. It would be nice to find more solid evidence. Phebe Rogers' ancestry goes way back into the 1600s in New England, so it would be fun to prove that William W. or C. was her son. I will keep searching. Hope you can help too.

Jack
