WANTED: Information regarding Portuguese VIEIRA / VIERA families who once lived in Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
Are you descended from John Viera and Teliveda Pachico Sylvia of St. Michael, Azores? How about Manuel Silva Viera of Pico? Or Marion Cardoza Viera of New Bedford? Are you descended from another Portuguese-American family with Martha's Vineyard connections? We need your help!
The Portuguese Genealogy Committee, the small group of Martha's Vineyard residents who in 1996 published "Our Portuguese Heritage: An Informal Genealogy of 3,000 Families on Martha's Vineyard," together with the book's author, Marianne Holmes Thomas of Edgartown, will begin work this winter on a second, and final edition of the genealogy that will bring family records up to the close of the millennium and include corrections and additions to the first edition.
The committee also plans to incorporate brief family histories and an expanded narrative history of the Vineyard's Portuguese community as a whole. Members of the committee are eager to begin the task of collecting information and corrections and would very much appreciate your help.
The committee members are: Marianne Thomas, 508-627-4060 or c/o firstname.lastname@example.org; Jean Andrews, email@example.com; Chris Baer, firstname.lastname@example.org; Elaine Carroll, email@example.com; Bill Elbow and Ann Allen, 508-627-9428 or firstname.lastname@example.org; Tommy Fisher, 508-627-4656 (w), 508-627-5929 (h), and Claudia Metell, 508-693-1428 (h).
