Hi Richard
I was first drawn to your enquiry when I saw the name of Reginald Vicary but, alas, on checking my records I find he is not the same person I have on my tree.
My Vicarys came from Devon/Somerset and it is there that the name is most usually found. I would suggest that you obtain your father's birth and marrige certificates if you have not already done so as this will tell you where he was born, parents names (which you know, of course) and father's occupation. From there you could try for your grandparents' marriage certificate and from that try to get an age for your grandfather and then his birth certificate. Working backwards like this would seem to be the best way as you have no-one in the family left to ask questions of.
Hope this helps.
Good luck
