Vibber/Bibber,Sarah, Salem witch trials
Last night while researching my grandmother's family Bibber, I found a link to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692
www.rootsweb.com/~nwa/witch.htmlon this page I clicked on the name Rebecca Nurse and there was the mention of a Sarah Vibber/Bibber.On other pages at this site she is mentioned many times in connection with an Elizabeth Hubbard and apparently from what I read, she and Eliz. testified against a woman named Mary Bradbury and Mary was hanged as a witch.I couldn't however find where Sarah was hanged, but perhaps I didn't dig far enough.I also have a book called The Devil In Mass. by Marion L. Starkey that mentions Sarah/Goody Bibber. In the testimonies of the trials however it also lists her name as Good-wife Bibber.Does anyone have any additional information on this family.I have been trying for so long to discern what the origins of my grandmothers name is, and if it was Vibber and they were involved in the Salem witch trials, the probabilities of them changing their name to Bibber or Vibbert or whatever could be possible to avoid further persecution and antagony. Also my Bibber family is all from the Harpswell, ME area as far as I know, but if they fled the Mass area which back then Maine was all a part of, this could be probable clue to the mysteries of where the name
Bibber came from.Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
