There were also Vians in Italy as well as Spain. My recommendation is to check the Social Security Index Web Site and also check www.familysearch.org site. They have a plethora of free information that is pretty reliable. If your grandfather was naturalized and applied for a social security card you can send away for his application which would tell you his birth place and may have his parents names. Good luck.
