This is just a shot in the dark, but I'm looking for information about or other relations of my great-great-grandfather Nelson Vezina. Who left Canada in for the U.S. in 1863; he came and went between the two countries and finally settled in Colorado in 1881. His biography in "The Progressive Men of Western Colorado" is at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/co/delta/bios/vezinan.txt
Some salient bits of information about Nelson (an anglicized version of his name, I believe) are:
* Born in the dominion of Canada on June 26, 1841.
* His parents were John and Margaret(Butternea) Vezina both born and reared in Canada. The father was a farmer.
* In 1882, Nelson moved to Delta County Colorado and took up a homestead claim on Ash Mesa.
* On September 16, 1861, he was married to Miss Emily Roapell, a native of Canada. They had eleven children, of whom but four were living in 1905, Emily, Emma, Mary (my great-grandmother) and Nelson.
* Mr. Vezina married a second wife, Miss Mary Brien, who also was born in Canada. They have had twelve children, of
whom eight were living in 1905, Mose, James, Anna, Ellen, Edward, Mattie, Cyril, and Jewel.
My father and aunt remember visiting relatives in Montreal as children in the 1940s. These relatives may have been from the Roapell family, the family of Nelson's first wife. Their memories are fragmentary, but here is what they remember:
* Visiting an older woman with the surname of Siggard (or something similar).
* They remember an "Uncle Searle," and "Uncle Cecil," and a woman named Jacqueline Nolan.
