DNA TESTING UPDATE
Since posting last message on the subject of Vezina / Vizenor DNA testing:
1. Have made email contact with a member of Vezinat family in France and am currently awaiting results from Family Tree DNA test. Hopefully, our haplotypes will show us to still be related. A match will establish that we are both in fact members of same family and will be useful for drawing more general conclusions regarding the Vezinat family.
2. This past week I received notification from Family Tree DNA of a 23 of 25 marker test match with a member of the Bailey family who descend from a 19th century ancestor from North Carolina. As mentioned in previous post I had earlier a 22 of 25 match with a member of the Green family from South Carolina. One cannot help but wonder how it is possible for a member of a French Canadian family to be so closely related to families who settled in the Carolinas. At this time it is my speculation that (a) the Green and Bailey families are descended of Huguenot settlers to the Carolinas. It should be remembered that many of the Huguenots came from the La Rochelle area of France and settled in Virginia and Carolinas. It may be the case that Vezinats, Greens, and Baileys are all connected by a common ancestor in France. This assumes, of course, that the names Green and Bailey are the result of Anglisization of French names. (b) The Vezinats are descended of English settlers to France and that Vezinats, Greens, and Baileys all share an English common ancestor.
3. Have made several unsuccessful attempts to secure participation in DNA testing from members of the Vezinho / Vizinho families of Portuguese ancestry. My intention here is to determine if the Vezinat family is descended of the Portuguese Vezinho family. A match between these families would go a long way toward establishing the possible Sephardic Jewish ancestry of the Vezinat family. This objective I will continue to pursue with vigor.
