Here's what I have on Alexander Vestal.
In the 1860 Census for Yadkin County, North Carolina, his wife is listed ast Melany A.A Martha Vestal is living with them "Domestic, age 50".
Book 2, page 450, Yadkin Co., N.C. wills -- Alexander Vestal."2.I desire that my son Ira W. Vestal have 36 acres of land on the east side of the tract where I now live.3.I desire that my son Miles Vestal have 36 acres west of I. W. Vestal's tract.4.I desire that my son Tandy Vestal have the remainder of the house tract including the dwelling house, mill and ... on the west side.5.It is my desire that my son M. M. Vestal have 50 acres of land on the west end of the tract where he now lives.6. ...son John Vestal remainer of tract... 7.S. M. Vestal 50 acres ...8.son H. F. Vestal remainder of that tract.9.... oldest daughter Ann Howell $1 out of my personal property ... 10....youngest daughter Catharine have $1 out of my personal property ... Alexander Vestal, Feb. 10, 1891.Witnessed by W. R. G. Martin, M. G. Stover.(There were notations on side of page that the two girls had been paid their dollars!) -- Note that Delanah is not mentioned in will -- did she die before 1891?)
This information came from Leona Macy, granddaughter of Santford Miller Vestal. She lived with and took care of Ira Vestal, Alexander's son, and his wife Jane.
"Alexander Vestal was born June 10, 1826 and died July 18, 1898. (See note 11).He was the son of Martha Vestal (See note 12), (1805-?) and an unknown father, and was married to Delanah Gross on April 5, 1844. (See note 13).Their children were (1) Michael M. (1847-?), (2) Santford Miller Vestal Sr. (18479-1897), (3) Tandy (?-?), (4) Ira W. (?-?), (5) Miles (?-?), (6) H. F. (?-?), (7) Ann Howell (?-?), (8) Catherine Brooks (?-?), and (9) Molly A. (not in Alexander's will unless the same as Ann Howell) (See note 14).(Note girls are listed with their married names.)
Alexander was instrumental in founding the Fall Creek Baptist Church. (See note 15).His was the first Vestal generation to be buried in the cemetery there, rather than a Quaker cemetery. He is most responsible for redirecting the family's religion to Baptist around 1875. (See ntoe 16).All evidence points to a solid Quaker religious background prior to Alexander's generation.
Alexander, called "Sandy", was a farmer who seems to have begun adult life on the land and farm which his mother had inherited from his grandfather, Jesse Vestal Sr.Despite his social disadvantages, Alexander's life reflects morality and prosperity, and a concern for his mother and family.(See Alexander's will, page 6a)."
