Dear Linda,
There's some confusion there from what I've seen too.The best history I've seen has the father being Randle.George and Randle were brothers from what I've seen.a website called 'the morris clan' has some good data on this. This site lists a lot of Vernon data:
http://www.themorrisclan.com/GENEALOGY/FAMILY%20STUDIES/VERNON%20FAMILY%20STUDY.htmlhttp://www.themorrisclan.com/GENEALOGY/FAMILY%20STUDIES/VERNON%20FAMILY%20STUDY.html
For Randle, they have the following:
• F23. Randle VERNON. Born about 1534 at Middlewich, Cheshire, England; son of Thomas VERNON [F248]. Styled 'gentleman of Pirle', Norwiche Hundred in the 'Visitation of Cheshire' (1600) from the Harleian Society records. He died in 1618. Children: Hugh VERNON [F24]. {S30, V61}.
It cites the following two websites:
http://wendyblack.tripod.com/vernontree.htmlhttp://wendyblack.tripod.com/vernontree.html and
http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/VERNON.htmhttp://www.tudorplace.com.ar/VERNON.htm
I have followed up with the webmasters of both sites but have not heard anything back on their sources.
I checked WikiTree and they have George as the father.I sent notes to people there to see what their source is for that.
I didn't find anything definitive in either the Visitation of Cheshire (1580) or (1613), or Ormerod's Cheshire.
What I have been able to do is order a copy of Randle Vernon's will from here:

Hopefully that will clarify what children he had.I will post what I find.Happy New Year!
