This is my family...the family of Isaac Vernon b. 1715 son of Thomas. I think I can match up these names. The late 1700 deed with Nehemiah and Jane Caldwell Vernon...Jane is the second wife of Lt. Isaac and Nehemiah is probably their son. Joseph Vernon (father of orphan Isaaac) is another son of Isaac and Jane Caldwell Vernon. Both sons are mentioned in Jane's father's will. James is another son of Lt. Isaac Vernon, but probably with his first wife, Elizabeth Austin. I don't have a name for James' wife and Elinor may be her name.
You're right...there are a lot of Vernons in Rockingham Co...they are all cousins and these names are common in the family, so it is hard to be sure who's who.

The big problem with this family has been sorting out the names and dates of the two wives Of Lt. Isaac and apportioning the children between them. These deeds may be the only way. If you have any insight into this family of Isaac I would be delighted to see it. I live in Raleigh and have easy access to the state archives.
