Julie,
My information is at odds with yours. I have heard of the Vermigli connection but believe that the Giles line can be traced to France (Lyon) through Wales and then Northern Ireland. My greatgrandfather Franklin Vermillion of Putnam County Indiana maintained we were of Scotch-Irish descent. Giles did marry a Scotch woman name of Burch which lends some credence to that. I have a copy of an old letter stating that as late as 1900 there were Vermillions still living who used french as the language spoken at home and whose Bible was written in French. Never have known how verifiable that was but the migration pattern does support the Scotch Irish connection. Hope this is helpful.
Les
