I have a book on the Vermillions originally written around 1900. WHen I get back from vacation I will look through it for references to your ancestor. A couple of suggestions in the interim. Expand your search to include Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky. My particulaqr branch of the family traveled from Maryland to Virgiia toi Mount Sterling Kentucky and then to the area around Danville Illinois. I know that they stopped in Kentucky for a generation (1800-1830?) before moving on to Illinois. Some membeers had moved on to Missouri so it sounds similar to your family. Let me know if this is helpful.
