Thank you for your reply. The information may be very helpful in at least identifying the correct names of Winfield's children. Below is what I have learned about him and recorded in my research diary. Let me know if you have any additional information.

Winfield Vermillion
•       Winfield appears in the 1880 census living with Charles H. and Alfred Vermillion in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana. It is possible that Winfield’s full name was Joseph Winfield Vermillion (son of Dorcy and Jane Vermillion of Virginia) b. 1862 in Indiana. This info suggests that Dorcy and Jane may have moved to Indiana before their deaths.
•       In the 1900 census of Standing Rock Indian Reservation, P. 260A-20, which spans Sioux Co., ND and Corson Co., SD, the following is listed:
Winfield Vermillion, 38, M, born Indiana F-Unk M-Unk
Mary Vermillion, 39, F, born Nebraska F-Maryland M-North Dakota
Children listed:
Chas. 13
Arthur 10
Mary 8
Abie or Adie 4
Winfield 2
(son) 6/12
•       Land patents in South Dakota show the following:
Arthur Vermillion 160 acres 12/20/1909
               320 acres 7/19/1917
Charles Vermillion 320 acres 12/20/1909
               640 acres 12/6/1917
Mary Vermillion 8 acres 12/13/1926
Winfield Vermillion 160 acres 9/30/1907
•       The 1920 census of Glenavon Twp., Emmons Co., ND Dist. 52 p. 7B line 79 shows Winfield Vermillion.
