Dear Carol and to the others who have posted messages to this site, I have researched for Vermillion's in Louisianna and was told by the folks at the Vermillion parish Tourism Center that the Vermillion names in this state come from the color of the Vermillion River which runs through Vermillion Parish. Also, for Vermillions in early Texas, I have note of several but most notable was Joseph Vermillion, among the "Heros of the Battle of San Jacinto" Joseph and his troops were scouting the country side picking up stray Mexicans following the battle which lost Texas for Mexico forever. His troop found a soldier dressed as a coporal hiding under a bridge. The captured him, turns out the coporal was General Santanna!! I also have a Robert Vermillion as part of the Lone Star Rifles, CSA.
Regards, Charles Vermillion
