James was one of fourteen children of John M. and Mary A. Shepherd Vermillion. John was born in 1817 in Loudoun County, VA, and Mary in 1824. One of James' brothers, Henry Morgan Vermillion, was my great grandfather. John was the son of Charles and Nancy Miller Vermillion. Charles and Nancy had approximately fourteen children. Charles was born in Maryland in 1778. Nancy was born in 1788. They were married May 14, 1811, in Berkeley County, VA (now Martinsburg, WV, area). Charles was a shoemaker.
I have a family picture of John and Mary's family including James which was taken in approximately 1865. I would be willing to send you a copy if you send your mailing address.
