VERMILLION buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside, ETOWAH COUNTY, Alabama: Mrs. M.E. Vermillion, died March 5, 1898, age 57, wife of J.M. Vermillion - died at the home of her son, J.H. Vermillion, per an obituary in The Gadsden Times. ANOTHER OBITUARY: J. M. Vermillion died Sept. 8, 1898, age 71, widower of Mrs. M.E. Vermillion. Died at the home of his son, J.H., in the community called Markton (now part of Southside.) Obit states "Mr. Vermillion was born and reared in SC and for the past three or four years he lived with his son in Markton. He passed his 71st birthday on the 25 of last month. His remains were tenderly laid away at Pilgrims Rest graveyard by the side of his wife." (This is the only Vermillion buried in this area. I have no connection to the Vermillion family.....I compiled a book on Pilgrims Rest Cemetery and found the obits in the local newspaper. Mr. & Mrs. Vermillion do not have tombstones. I believe the son, J.H., moved from Etowah Co. to Jefferson County, AL.)
