Hello Yvan,

I would like to find enough people to work together to reconstruct the Vermeersch Family tree.
I do not know of any Alberic or Paul-Henri Vermeersch. But this much I can tell you:
Vermeersch is derived from "Van der Meersch". The oldest mention of the name is from the middle ages in West Flanders. Altough Alberic Vermeersch may have come from Antwerp, chances are also that he came from West Flanders where Alberic was a first name that was found there. Antwerp was teh harbour where most emigrants to the US or Canada left.
Vermeersch must be a name that is very old because in West Flanders this name is pronounced "Vermisch" since centuries. "Vermisch" is derived from "Vermeersch". Pronunciation in West Flanders is known to have changed litle since the middle ages.
I found two names, Pieter and his son Henric Vermeersch (father and son) who lived in the town of Tielt about 5 centuries ago.

I hope you find this information interesting and that you are may visit this Forum again.

Marc Vermeersch
