Vere Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Steven,
I have been doing a little research on my Deaver family, and happened upon the Vere Family genforum. I was astounded to read where you had written that Richard Wilmont Deaver (my 6th great grandfather) was also known as "Count De Vere". Years ago when I got family info from my great aunt Emily (Cooper) Davidson, she told me that Frances Deaver (my GG grandmother) was the granddaughter of Count De Vere, a French nobleman, and a cousin to the Marquis de Lafayette. I traced my roots back to Richard Wilmont Deaver and Grace Fitzmorris and could find nothing about a "Count De Vere", so I couldn't imagine where my great aunt could have come up with that information. Apparently she was at least partially correct, except that Frances Deaver was his GG granddaughter rather than his granddaughter. Could you please tell me how you heard about him being referred to as "Count De Vere". Do you know why it was family tradition to call him that? My great aunt told me that we were of French descent through the Deavers.
Thanks for any information you might have.
Jean King
