In May 2004, the bell tower at Blackmore was successfully tree ring dated to 1400, "or within one or two years". The timbers (one felled winter 1397/98, another winter 1398/99, and a third, winter 1399/1400) must have been sourced locally, but there is no evidence as yet to prove or disprove the theory. What this date does confirm is the close proximity to the rebuilding of the Nave roof, containing the devices of the de Vere and Samford families. For more information, please E mail.
