Asquith and earldom of Oxford in 1920's

Family papers include short press cuttings describing how my father's uncle, a stonemason called Stanislas de Vere, contested the granting of the earldom of Oxford to Asquith in the 1920's. Unfortunately this is all we know. Does anyone have more information on the case?
