Jewish community 18th Century (David Gabay Crasto)
Posted by: Thomas McGlinchey (ID *****3128) Date: January 05, 2014 at 09:34:19

There is some indication that David Gabay Crasto lived in Venezuala before taking a wife in Surinam, prior to 1797.

It may be that his family owned a plantation in Surinam at that time (not sure).

David eventually went to New York, and established himself and his adopted son, Abraham Gabay Crasto, in the real estate business. David was a builder of some note.

Any suggestions about trying to track him down?

Thanks much.

Tom
