IS YOUR NAME VENIARD or VENIARD? Or do you you have any ancestors or relatives who use the spelling VENIARD or VINIARD? I recently discovered a family in Scotland around 1930 who are evidently not descendents of any of the Irish VENNARD families, to which I am related. I am not related to this family, but became intrigued when I found they had a traceable link to France, which is where I believe my VENNARD/VENARD family originated. After a bit of digging, I found that they were descendents of a Charles Henri VENIARD (or VINIARD), who was born in France c 1848, and was living in London, working as a Jewellers Assistant, at the time of the 1881 census. Charles married Emmas Rosinea FINGLASS in Islington in 1875, and they had at least 3 children: Edward (c1871-); Ernest (c1876-) and Frederick Louis (1877-1917). Nothing further is known about Edward or Ernest. Frederick Louis (1877-1917) met a married Lilias Wallace in Hampstead in 1907. Lily, as she was known, was born in Walls, Shetland. When she was 4 months old, her father died, and the family moved to her maternal grandparents home in Calfshound, Eday. In the 1881 census, she was a servant there. She then went to Kirkwall into the service of Mr. Cowper, the town clerk. The Cowpers later moved to London and Lily moved with them. It was there that she met and married, Charles and Emma's son, Frederick Louis. They had at least 3 children: William Frederick (1907-); Ernest(1908-) and Margaret Lily(1915-). Sadly, Frederick Louis VENIARD was killed in action in WWI in 1917. During the 1920s Lily was working on a dairy, but she returned to Calfsound to look after her ailing mother. Lily died in Edinburgh in 1968 at age 94. Nothing more is known about Margaret Lily at this time. Ernest emigrated to Australia and became a butler to the British Ambassador. He also wrote a book about his life as a butler and his childhood in Eday. William Frederick became a gardener and married Ellen Taylor in Dundee in 1930. Their daughter Catherine Louie was born in 1934 at an estate in Doune, Perthshire, where William Frederick was working as an under-gardener. Does anyone in this group have any connection with this family and is able to provide more information on their origins in France??
