Im a Venable, my family followed the Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, routes. Most followed the rivers, it was safer and as they opened up the land after the indian wars, and the civil war. In th 1830's in an escape from poverty and better fortune the Venable Family migrated from Tenn., Kentucy, lots of the brothers and cousins went on the Oregon Trail and numerous documents and books can be found about the VENABLE & HUBBARD migration. Lots stoped and stayed in Idaho, Montana, ect. There was a direct family connection with the Venable's of Wayne Co., Indiana, check the WAYNE COUNTY HISTORICAL SURENAME LISTS FOR RHE STATE. I can direct you to people that know the Venable history still living far better than I.
Your a Distant Relative, I presume?
I dont know about the story from the old west but, there is a story or family whatever, that John Venable Was married to an Elizabeth Dixon whom was said to be a direct relitive if not her main family, related to the Dixons that where part of ower American Old West Histories of the infamous DIXON|SMITH gang? I think this is the one that in a shootout with FRANK DALTON who was acting as Marshalls deputy was Killed in a shootout with this gang known in the American old west as the DIXONSMITH gang. Hope this may lead to something, let me know?
