The women who have joined DAR thus far did so with John recorded as "Patriotic Service", not as a "Captain".Does the author of the book footnote any sources?Many of the federal service records from the Revolution burned, making some soldiers forever anonymous, but Captains would have made records in a number of different record groups at NARA that didn't burn, in fact, they were mentioned frequently in the pension application files of the men they commanded.Applicants for pension were required to name their commanding officers, including their Captain.
