Hello Frances

We also have several members of our Family in England who have 'Vedder either as a first name or middle name and this pattern is repeated in related families in Australia.

They are named after the well-known Orcadian poet, writer and editor, David Vedder (1790-1854) who was the father-in-law of my great-grandfather, the distinguished Edinburgh artistic lithographer, Friedrich Schenck (1811-1885). They collaborated on several illustrated books, including the famous story of Reynard the Fox' (1852).

In later years, the Schenck family moved from Scotland firstly to Stoke-on-Trent and then the South-east of England.

The name Vedder, in your family forenames suggests an earlier marriage in your family with a spouse named Vedder, or perhaps a connection with the Orkney Islands of Scotland.

I do hope that this is of help.

With warm good wishes
David
(David H J Schenck in the County of Surrey, England)
